Description:

The Chiribiquete National Park was formed in 1989 and with 28.000 km2 it is the largest in Colombia. It is famous for the Serraina de Chiribiquete mountains, stunning table mountains of volcanic origin, up to 800 m high. They are surrounded by lowlands with rainforest and savanna and the average temperature is 24° Celsius with a lot of clouds and rainfall. It is the perfect destination for observing endemic birds and many other animals such as pink dolphins and monkeys.

Day 0

Meeting at the Bogotá bus terminal 7:30 pm in order to take the night bus to San José del Guaviare (about 8 hours).

Day 1 San Jose Guaviara - Aracuara

After breakfast in San Jose de Guaviare, we will continue to the airport and start a 1-hour over flight through the Serranía del Chiribiquete towards Aracuara. From above, we will have a great view over the impressing vegetation and the geological formations of the Guiana Shield, among the oldest of this planet, from the Precambrian. Upon arrival in Aracuara, we will visit the family homes where we will also spend the night and in the afternoon continue to the Salto del Diablo waterfall. Later on, visit of the abuelito (grandpa) Marceliano and we will get to know the tradition of the Mambeo, the coca chewing.

Day 2 Rio Yari

Today we will navigate through the rivers Caquetá, Yarí and Mesay. In Mesay, there is the so-called Cueva del Bufeo which is perfect for the observation of pink dolphins. We continue to the Gamitana torrent, where we will stay the night in tents. For dinner, we will have fish!

Day 3 Aracuara

Walking tour through the jungle in the Yarí streambed towards the torrents (about 6km).  Afterwards, return to Aracuara.

Overnight stay at abuelitoMarceliano Guerrero´s place.

Day 4 Lost City

Visit to the "Lost City" (Half day tour). In the afternoon, we will give some presents to the indigenous children (visitors can for example leave some books, pens, educational material, etc.)

Overnight stay at abuelitoMarceliano Guerrero´s place.

Day 5 Canyon del Diablo

In the morning, tour to the Salto del Diablo (also known as the Araracuara Canyon or Caquetá Canyon) for the observation of the "Guacamayas" birds.

Flight back to San José del Guaviare, from where we will take the bus to Bogota.

Keep in mind that there may be drastic changes in the itinerary. Even being one or more days. You will travel to one of the remotest areas around the world and logistic may have problems.
