Tepuy, Vichada
We invite you to visit the beautiful Orinoco region, navigating through the most exotic places of Vichada. In Puerto Carreño, we will go aboard for this 7-day roundtrip in boats and kayaks.
Transfer from the airport Germán Olano (Puerto Carreño) to the Caño Dagua. We will explore this unique Caño with crystalline water and White beaches by kayak and have the opportunity to observe different species of skates and ornamental fish. We will spend the first night in Caño Dagua.
In the morning, we will navigate in kayaks along the “Raudales of Ventanas” and later change into a speedboat, following the Orinoko River to the Omacha Foundation. From there, we will hike to the Laguna de Pañuelo and afterwards continue by speedboat until Caño Negro, where we will spend the night.
Early in the morning, we will climb the Dagua mountain and enjoy the colorful sunrise. By boat, we continue to the “Raudal Atures” (rapids) in front of the “Casuarito” where the Orinoco river transforms into a stunning group of stone islands and waterfalls. This rapid is considered the narrowest worldwide!
In the afternoon, we will navigate in kayaks along the “Raudales de Ventanas” in Santa Helena. There, some enormous stones have been shaped into funny sculptures by the currents of the Orinoco river and you can enjoy a refreshing bath in natural swimming pools.
Today we take the speedboat again until arriving at the point where the Caño Negro unites with the Caño Verde and creates a breathtaking play of colors.
In the afternoon, we will hike to the “Alto de las Piedras” from where we enjoy a nice view over the savanna and the famous table top mountains that are called “Tepuy” in the native language of the indigenous people living there which means “house of the gods” .
This night, we will sleep in tents at this unique place, where the two Caños are joining.
In Kayak we will follow the Caño Negro down until reaching the Rio Orinoco, a perfect place for birding! From there, transfer in speedboat to Rio Bita and overnight in tents at the “3 Bocas” beach.
Today we will navigate along the Rio Bita in kayaks. This river is a real treasure of biodiversity and has its source in the savannas of the Orinoquia. This inflow is quite special because it has not been affected by ranching nor extraction of natural resources yet. No humans are living there, only jaguars, dolphins, tapirs and quite a few species of turtles. Experts categorize it as one of the healthiest inflows in Colombia.Afterwards, we will visit the place where the Meta River flows into the Orinoko River, where we can go kayaking with the company of pink dolphins. We will end the day in Puerto Carreño and spend our last night there.
